Shodo Galerie

Opened at the end of 2025 in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, Shodo Galerie, located just steps from the Maison Gainsbourg, in the heart of the galleries and antique dealers district of the Carré Rive Gauche, is the first space in France dedicated to the Art Shodo movement, a contemporary current derived from avant-garde Japanese calligraphy.

Founded by Sylvain Salvarelli, a passionate collector and traveler of Japan for forty years, the gallery is directly linked to the Bokujinkai movement of the 1960s and the master calligraphers Yuichi Inoue and Morita Shiryu. It collaborates with the Tokyo gallery Carré Moji, thus strengthening the bridge between the French and Japanese artistic scenes. The gallery currently exhibits artists from the Art Shodo movement, who have a resolutely avant-garde approach to calligraphy, where gesture and ink become a fully-fledged plastic expression. It thus presents some rising figures of the current calligraphic scene such as Gen Miyamura, as well as Mie Okubo, Kazumi Okamoto…

The gallery is gradually opening to other horizons: its founder indeed plans to exhibit French artists working on the line, thus broadening the dialogue between calligraphic traditions and contemporary plastic gestures.
